Independent Guåhan Youth Open Mic

Art has long provided communities with a way to express who they are, preserve what matters to them, and imagine their futures. This October, Independent Guahan's Youth Organizing Fellowship members invite the community to take the stage and share their talents through music, poetry, storytelling, comedy, and other forms of creative expression.

The group is hosting an Open Mic Night on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at 105GU in the Tumon View Plaza. Local performers are encouraged to share pieces centered around the themes of indigenous culture, language, values, and sovereignty. The event is free and open to the public, and people of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend.

Independent Guahan, a local organization that educates the community about the possibilities of independence as a future political status for Guahan, began a youth fellowship program this summer with the intention of fostering leadership and community organizing skills for a group of six youth leaders. The youth are organizing the Open Mic event to create a space where local artists can showcase their talents and use creative expression to explore the cultures, languages, values, identities, and ideas that matter to them and their communities.

Musicians, poets, storytellers, and comedy act performers are invited to participate. There is no age requirement to perform, but performers must register by October 15, 2026, using the QR code provided on the event flyer.

Performers are invited to share their work for a maximum of five minutes and will be eligible for a $100 cash prize for an Audience Choice award. Interested performers can use the flyer QR code or register online at this link or to use the QR code in the flyer.

Whether taking the stage or supporting performers from the audience, everyone is encouraged to attend and enjoy an evening of local talent, cultural expression, community, and conversation. Admission is free and all are welcome.
